About the Artist(s)

Vancouver-born, Berlin-based keyboardist Tyson Naylor has performed internationally in very diverse musical settings, from Free Jazz to Soul to chamber ensembles. He’s played with Destroyer, Frazey Ford, and Dan Mangan, as well as larger groups such as the Warsaw Improviser’s Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and Turning Point Ensemble, and in venues across Canada, the US, Germany, Poland, Czechia, and Türkiye. Other artists Naylor has collaborated include Aram Bajakian, Peggy Lee, Tristan Honsinger, Dylan van der Schyff, Tobias Delius, Gord Grdina, Kenton Loewen, Tony Wilson, Axel Dörner, Mats Äleklint and Lina Allemano. His debut trio recording was released on Songlines Records.

For this set at Frankie’s, he’ll be joined by longtime musical colleagues Kenton Loewen on drums and Tommy Babin on bass. The trio will freely interpret Naylor’s compositions, which draw on influences as wide ranging as Misha Mengelberg, Wayne Horvitz, Louis Moholo, Ornette Coleman and Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou.

“[Naylor] has an impish sense of humour that shows an affinity for the merrymakers of the ICP Orchestra.  You can hear Misha Mengelberg’s spare, subtle intervals and dry-martini wit in his playing, though it’s Mengelberg filtered through Brad Mehldau.”       -Richard Moule, Signal to Noise

For this Frankie’s After Dark performance the trio features Tyson Naylor on piano, Tommy Babin on bass, and Kenton Loewen on drums.
