About the Artist(s)

Dexter Gordon is widely regarded as the first musician to translate the language of mid-20th century modern jazz – a.k.a. “bebop” – to the tenor saxophone. Gordon was known for his genial and humorous stage presence. He was an advocate of playing to communicate with the audience, which was his musical approach as well. His improvisation was remarkably engaging and intelligent, but never gratuitously complex or unusual. It was always a conversation simultaneously delightful and intellectual. Join saxophonist Cory Weeds for a celebration of the “Sophisticated Giant.” With Sharon Minemoto on piano, John Lee on bass and Jesse Cahill on drums
